Devotional: Psalm 47

Shouting God Songs

Sitting on the dock, facing East, watching the rays of sun shine across the beautiful Lake Erie water. One is able to see a variety of ways God is present in each wave, each soaring seagall, each passing sailboat and each ray of sunshine that strikes the water.

One hymn in particular reminds us of the faithfulness of God through the beauty of nature. Ponder these words as you imagine a sunrise you have experienced on the dock or along Ohio’s Most Beautiful Mile:

Great is Thy Faithfulness

Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me

The hymn writer draws on the psalmists words found in Psalm 47.

Try reading this passage from Eugene Peterson’s, The Message: “Shout God songs at the top of your lungs! God Most High is stunning, astride land and ocean.”

Imagine how God is present in our Lakeside community through nature, people and relationships. What way do you contribute shouting God songs each day to those around you?

Join The Front Porch conversation and share your experiences of God’s Most High as you experience our Chautauqua community this summer.  We look forward to your comments about God songs!

Lakeside Chautauqua will welcome the Rev. Saranne Nelson-Olin as the guest preacher on Sunday, June 1. She will lead the Hoover Community Worship Service at 10:30 a.m. in Hoover Auditorium.

It’s true—if you can remember Chip’s song, you can find […]
