A collaborative effort blending the craftsmanship of the 11th Annual Lakeside Wooden Boat Show and the artistic expression of the Lakeside Plein Air Art Festival will create one of Lakeside’s most unique weekends of the Chautauqua season from Friday, July 18- Sunday, July 20.
This three-day event begins on Friday, July 18, when participating plein air artists will paint landscapes throughout the Lakeside Chautauqua grounds, as well as in the surrounding areas. Please join the Lakeside Chautauqua community in welcoming these talented artists to the grounds.
The Lakeside waterfront will transform into an outdoor showroom of classic wooden boats as these cruisers line the dock and the lawn of Hotel Lakeside at the 10th Annual Lakeside Wooden Boat Show from 12-5 p.m. Sunday, July 20.
More than 50 wooden boats, each classified by the year it was made, will be featured. The boats are categorized as historic (prior to 1918), antique (1919-1942), classic (1943-1975), early contemporary (1976-1984) and late contemporary (past 25 years). The sizes of the wooden boats featured range from 9’ to 57’.
There will be many events throughout the day, including plein air painting and live entertainment by Wally & The Beavs.
Plein air events will continue on Sunday, including a Plein Air Paintout from 12-2:30 p.m. The term “en plein air” means painting “in the open air.” Guests are invited to watch the artists create beautiful landscapes near Central Park.
Children may paint on the Pavilion lawn from 1-3:30 p.m. for a fee of $2. Proceeds support the C. Kirk Rhein, Jr., Center for the Living Arts.
A Wet Paint Sale, held on the Pavilion lawn from 2:30-4 p.m., will display original paintings that were completed throughout the weekend.
Wally & The Beavs will provide a wide range of music, including songs by Chicago, Journey, Grand Funk Railroad, Elton John, The Blues Brothers and The Beatles from 12:30-4:30 p.m. at the Pavilion.
Sunday Brunch at the Hotel Lakeside Café will be available from 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m.
Several food vendors will be offering picnic items in Central Park, in addition to other dining options in the Lakeside Business District.
