Iskender and Ahsen Konez visited Ohio and Lakeside for the first time in August 2014.
They traveled here all the way from Bursa, Turkey, the fourth largest city in Turkey with a population of 1.7 million. Their time spent in and around Lakeside was wonderful and full of new experiences.
The couple came to visit Iskender’s brother and family, Orhan and Liz Konez. Their trip spanned 10 days and included visits to Cleveland, Lakeside and the surrounding area.
Iskender and Ahsen’s first impression of Lakeside Chautauqua was how very green, clean and organized everything was in the community.
“The people living here are very friendly and nice to those who are visiting,” said the couple. “Everyone is always smiling.”
Iskender and Ashen discussed how great the quality of people and life are in this part of the world.
“The people know how to live here,” said the couple.
While in Lakeside, they had the opportunity to play miniature golf, take in a Hoover Auditorium program, walk Ohio’s Most Beautiful Mile and spend time on a fishing charter. One completely new experience was playing shuffleboard in Central Park.
Another first for the couple was seeing a buffalo at the African Safari Wildlife Park in Port Clinton, Ohio, and trying new foods, including Indian, Mexican and Japanese.
The couple typically eats Turkish foods, but enjoyed all of the dining options available to them here. Pancakes were a favorite and a recipe they took back home to Turkey.
After all of their experiences, the fondest memory is the time spent with family in fellowship.
“Walking around was a good choice, but everything is so good, it is hard to choose,” said the couple.
When asked if they would return to Lakeside, they both gave a resilient “yes” and mentioned they were looking at house prices.
Lakeside had so much to share with this couple during their first visit from Turkey.
