Lakeside Chautauqua has joined #GivingTuesday, a national day of giving.
Taking place on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2014, #GivingTuesday harnesses the collective power of non-profits, families, business and individuals to transform how people think about, talk about and participate in the giving season.
To celebrate this day of giving, Lakeside is introducing an initiative that supports the Chautauqua pillar of recreation.
Built in the 1960s, Lakeside’s miniature golf course is a multi-generational tradition. Each summer, families gather for tournaments and afternoons of fun along the waterfront.
Even after 51 years, miniature golf remains a cherished Lakeside activity. However, there are many repairs that need to be made to this beloved recreational facility.
The concrete at the mini-golf course is sinking, and the water runoff is draining into the holes. The bumper edging is rotting slightly and will need to be replaced soon. Some of the obstacles are also deteriorating and need to be creatively redesigned and rebuilt. The putting greens wear quickly, and some are worn more than others. The landscaping also needs to be refreshed, and several plants and bushes need to be replaced.
To help with the #GivingTuesday miniature golf initiative, Bernice and Doyle Dillon are giving a generous challenge gift of $30,000 to encourage Lakesiders to give a first-time gift or a second gift on #GivingTuesday. We would like to thank the Dillon family for their love of the miniature golf course and for their generosity.
Will you give a gift on #GivingTuesday? Mark your calendars for Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2014.
