If you’re as excited about the 2015 Chautauqua summer season as everyone here at Lakeside Chautauqua is, then you’ll be happy to hear that we’re giving you an inside look at the exciting events happening in each pillar over the next few months on our blog.

The recreation pillar offers a wide variety of opportunities to keep everyone in the family active during the hot summer months. While on vacation, play a game of shuffleboard, tennis or miniature golf, splash around at the Splash Park, swim the Lake Erie waters or explore the nature/walking trail and Ohio’s Most Beautiful Mile. The possibilities are endless when taking part in the Lakeside Chautauqua experience.

Since Lakeside is conveniently located on the shores of Lake Erie, the lakefront provides the ideal setting for an abundance of water activities. Spend time this summer kayaking, swimming, fishing or simply relaxing on the dock and enjoying the beautiful shoreline. You can also take swimming lessons, sailing classes or sunset cruises.

Lakeside hosts several swimming and sailing events, including the Lakeside Summer Sailstice Programs & Regatta, Kelleys Island Swim, August Cup Sailing Race, Mouse Island Sailing Race and Lakeside Sailing Regatta.

A popular spot in Lakeside is the children’s Splash Park. Our zero depth entry children’s pool (age 3 & under) and state-of-the-art splash pad (ages 3-12) are located along the waterfront for an aquatic adventure for children.

In Central Park, shuffle away with family and friends on one of our 26 shuffleboard courts. Whether you’re young or old, beginner or pro, you’re sure to enjoy this ultimate shuffleboard experience. Take part in one of Lakeside’s many shuffleboard tournaments this summer, such as the Norma Faris Ohio Shuffleboard Tournaments, Ohio State Shuffleboard Tournaments, Lary Faris National Shuffleboard Tournament, Bill Slyh Shuffleboard Tournaments, National Shuffleboard Tournaments and more. For a complete list of tournaments, dates and times, visit www.lakesideohio.com/calendar.

Also located in Central Park is the newly renovated miniature golf course. This 18-hole course, with updated obstacles, will certainly pose a playful challenge for golfers of all ages. Keep score, plan a family tournament or just play for fun with friends. The renovated course will be dedicated on Saturday, June 20. Join the fun and celebrate with us.

The Williams Tennis Campus, located in South Lakeside, is home to seven courts with three different court surfaces: HarTru courts, two natural clay courts and two hard courts. Three additional courts are located along the waterfront in Perry Park. This summer, participate in private tennis lessons, round robins, QuickStart Tennis Program for kids or a tennis tournament, including the Williams Family Doubles, All Lakeside Tennis Tournament or August Family Doubles.

In between all of the fun and games, take time to relax and reflect along the nature/walking trail and Ohio’s Most Beautiful Mile. In addition, the LifeTrail Outdoor Wellness Park, located in South Lakeside, features 10 exercise and stretching stations for your daily fitness routine.

Other health and wellness activities include bike rides along the quaint streets of Lakeside, friendly games of basketball, pickleball or sand volleyball, fitness classes, Hatha yoga classes and more. While you relax on a park bench overlooking the water, your children are also sure to enjoy four playgrounds across campus.

Throughout the summer, Lakeside also hosts several recreational events for families of all sizes and guests of all ages to participate in.

During the 2015 Bonus Weekend, spring into summer with family, friends and splashes of vivid colors by participating in the inaugural Kaleidoscope of Color Run/Walk. The three-mile course will take Lakesiders through the grassy fields of South Lakeside while various colors of powder will be tossed at different course locations, changing your white clothes into a kaleidoscope of color.

On Sunday, July 26 walkers, joggers and runners will take to the streets for the 35th Annual 5k Raccoon Run and One-Mile Fun Run. The race course winds through Lakeside, ending at Hoover Auditorium.

For the brave at heart, three triathlons, including the Team, Individual and Youth Triathlons, are hosted in Lakeside each summer for participants of all ages.

With a never ending list of recreational activities, Lakeside has fun in the sun for active guests of all ages.
