Make Your Garden the Talk of the Neighborhood

DSC_8733Springtime in Ohio means returning to your garden and getting your hands a little dirty. What will you be adding to your landscape this year? Do you need inspiration or answers to the gardening questions you’ve been pondering all winter?

Join us for the annual Lakeside Plant Sale from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, May 23 and 12-4 p.m. Sunday, May 24 on the Pedestrian Walkway on Walnut Avenue, between Second and Third Streets.

The Plant Sale will feature a variety of annuals, perennials, herbs, ground covers and small nursery stock for purchase. All proceeds from the Plant Sale will help keep the Lakeside Chautauqua grounds beautiful throughout the summer.

In addition to the Lakeside Plant Sale, there will be four gardening demonstrations provided by Corso’s Flower & Garden Center. Annette and Tom Mercer, landscape designers at Corso’s, will lead the gardening demonstrations. Corso’s will also host a question and answer tent as part of the event.

Demonstrations held throughout the day on Saturday, May 23, include:

10 a.m. Impressive Container Gardens

Participants in this demonstration will learn about different types of plants and design techniques to fill a variety of garden containers.

11 a.m. Landscaping Ideas to Create Your Own “Outdoor Oasis”

This demonstration will share information about the types of plants and layouts that help create a unique, outdoor oasis.

1 p.m. Light Up Your Night with Outdoor Lighting & Drip Irrigation

Participants in this demonstration will learn how drip irrigation and lighting can brighten up their landscapes at night.

2 p.m. Perfect Patios, Wandering Walks & Wonderful Walls

The final demonstration of the day will teach participants how to make the most of their home’s outdoor spaces.

Once inside the gates of Lakeside Chautauqua, there is no additional fee to attend the Plant Sale and Gardening Demonstrations.

Guests may ask for a complimentary 90-minute Shopping/Dining Pass upon entering the gates. A Partial Day Chautauqua Pass (valid 3 hours during the day) is also available for $6.75. These passes do not include admission to the Hoover Auditorium performance that evening and do not include auto.

To stay on the grounds for the entire day and attend the Hoover Auditorium show that evening, purchase a Daily or Season Chautauqua Pass. A Daily Chautauqua Pass during Memorial Day weekend, which is at a reduced rate, is $12.25 for adults and $8.75 for youth (ages 12-18) per day. Children under age 12 and guests over the age of 90 are always free, but require complimentary passes, which are available upon entering. Chautauqua Passes may be purchased in advance at or upon entering the gates of Lakeside. For those with a Daily or Season Chautauqua Pass, there is no additional charge.
