From the construction engineering industry to becoming president of a Lutheran theological seminary, the Rev. Dr. Rick Barger will bring an authentic message to Lakeside while serving as Preacher of the Week for the 95th Annual Lutheran Chautauqua Week.
At the10:30 a.m. Hoover Community Worship Service on Sunday, June 21, the Rev. Dr. Barger will provide a message based on John 3: 1-17, where Nicodemus is questioning Jesus.
In his sermon, titled “Hope for the World,” the Rev. Dr. Barger will explore his international executive experience and ministry while bringing to light Nicodemus’ thoughts as a person transformed by Christ.
After serving at three Lutheran churches, the Rev. Dr. Barger entered ministry with 12 years of international executive experience, primarily in the Middle East. He began his term as President of the Trinity Lutheran Theological Seminary in 2013.
Through his experiences in the private sector and his ministry, he authored A New and Right Spirit: Creating an Authentic Church in a Consumer Culture.
Inspired on a trip to Haiti, the Rev. Dr. Barger founded the Haitian Timoun Foundation and now serves as its chair. The foundation invests in the development and self-sustainability of youth and children in Haiti.
The Rev. Dr. Barger earned a Doctor of Ministry degree from San Francisco Theological Seminary and a master’s degree from Trinity Lutheran Seminary.
During the week, he will also preach at 9:15 a.m. Monday-Friday during the Faith for Living Hour in Hoover Auditorium. Please note the special location for Faith for Living Hour this week.
At 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, the Rev. Dr. Barger will lead Vespers by the Lake, held at the Steele Memorial Bandstand.
Guests may obtain a complimentary church pass 7:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. Sunday, valid until 3 p.m. A complimentary Faith for Living Hour Pass is available from 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. Both of these passes include admissions for guests and auto.
