Continuing an annual tradition, the Lakeside Symphony Orchestra (LSO) will play 8 concerts from Wednesday, July 29 to Friday, Aug. 21. All concerts begin at 8:15 p.m. in Hoover Auditorium and are conducted by Music Director, Robert Cronquist.
This season, the symphony will highlight several soloists, perform a concert with Pointe of Departure Ballet and celebrate Cronquist’s 45th year as the Music Director.
The full concert series for the 2015 summer season will include:
Wednesday, July 29: Lakeside Symphony Orchestra Opening Night Concert – “Light Classics”
This evening’s performance will feature selections from the “Sound of Music,”“Dream Pantomime” from the opera Hansel and Gretel and music from Bedřich Smetana’s colorful opera, The Bartered Bride.
Saturday, Aug. 1: LSO Concert with Pointe of Departure Ballet
Accompanied by the LSO, Karen Gabay will lead the Pointe of Departure Ballet Company for an evening of dance, which has become a summer favorite among Lakesiders.
Tuesday, Aug. 4: LSO Concert featuring pianist Angelin Chang
Grammy Award-winning pianistAngelin Chang will accompany the LSO as the evening’s featured soloist. Together, they will play Franz Liszt’s “Piano Concerto No. 1 in E-flat.”
Friday, Aug. 7: “An Evening in Vienna”
Enjoy an elegant evening of music from the ‘Golden Age of Vienna,’ featuring soprano Dorota Sobieska.
Tuesday, Aug. 11: LSO Concert
The evening concert will commemorate the 485th Anniversary of The Augsburg Confession, with a performance of “Symphony No. 5: ‘Reformation’” by Felix Mendelssohn.
Friday, Aug. 14: “70th Anniversary of the End of World War II”
The LSO will perform a collection of songs, including “Hymn to the Fallen,” “Armed Forces Salute,” “Navy Hymn” and “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” in honor of the 70th Anniversary of the end of World War II. Soloist Joan Ellison will accompany the LSO during the concert.
Tuesday, Aug. 18: “Lincoln Portrait” with Michael Shirtz, narrator
As part of Civil War Week, the LSO will present a concert, titled “Lincoln Portrait” with Michael Shirtz serving a narrator during the performance.
Friday, Aug. 21: LSO Closing Night Concert featuring violinist Michael Ferri
Violinist, Michael Ferri will accompany the LSO as the evening’s featured soloist. Together, they will close the LSO summer concert series with Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s violin concerto.
