What’s Trending in Fashion this Week? Necklaces

Summertime not only means backyard barbecues and Fourth of July, but new fashion trends!

This week, we’ll be tackling necklaces. A unique necklace can make an outfit go from drab to fab in minutes. They range from a simple form of expression to an all-out statement.

Here at Lakeside, you can find so many cool shops that carry one-of-a-kind accessories, including earrings, scarves and necklaces.

MarilynsFirst, there’s Marilyn’s, a fun throwback to candy and childhood, located on Walnut Avenue. The necklaces in this shop come in an array of crazy colors, shapes and styles. There are also several bracelets and earring sets to go along with your statement necklace.

“My kids just love all of the crazy designs that they have here at Marilyn’s,” said Jane, a longtime Lakesider.

Marilyn’s necklaces give you a real bang for your buck and run between $5-10.

joseph wiseJoseph Wise Fine Clocks, a unique store with worldly fashions, also carries trendy necklaces. This store, located in the Business District along Second Street, has whatever fashion accessory you need, whether it’s a nice watch or colorful scarf.

“I have different kinds of necklaces,” said Cindy Wise, owner of the store. “Anyone can just come in and even find the matching pair of earrings, too.”

Necklaces from this amazing place cost between $30-35.

world next doorWorld Next Door sells colorful bags, scarves and unique jewelry. This fair trade shop, located on Second Street, incorporates fashion trends from across the world with many handmade necklaces.

“This is a fair trade store intended to make money for people from third world countries, so that they can do things like earn more and be able to afford food for their children,” said Rosalynn, the store’s cashier.

The necklaces featured in this shop are from the Latin American country of Ecuador, and range in price from $25-30.

miss mercedesRight next door is Miss Mercedes, a store known for its very chic Very Bradley accessories and handbags, as well as a beautiful jewelry collection. This summer, the store is selling nautical accessories, including anchor and starfish necklaces, which are perfect for the summertime.

“We have all kinds of necklaces, most of the popular ones have anchors,” said Lindsay, the store’s cashier. “Some of our other jewelry comes from South Africa.”

The necklaces from this lovely shop run between $25-30.

Pair these avant-garde pieces with a simple, one-color outfit, and you’re ready to make some heads turn!
