Preacher of the Week: The Rev. Dr. Michael Slaughter

mslaughter-7cropBetter known as a chief dreamer and spiritual entrepreneur of ministry marketplace innovation, the Rev. Dr. Michael Slaughter took a 90-member congregation to more than 4,000 members. His call to afflict the comfortable and comfort the afflicted challenges all to wrestle with God and their God-destinies.

The Rev. Dr. Slaughter is the lead pastor at Ginghamsburg United Methodist Church (UMC), which was named one of the top 50 churches in the U.S. by The Church Report in 2005 and 2006.

The publication also named him as one of the top 50 most influential Christians in America.

The Rev. Dr. Michael Slaughter will serve as Preacher of the Week from July 24-28.

At the 10:30 a.m. Hoover Community Worship Service on Sunday, July 24, the Rev. Dr. Slaughter will provide a message based on Mark 9:23-25. His life-long passion to reach the lost and set the oppressed free has now made him a tireless and leading advocate for the children, women and men of Darfur, Sudan, which was named by the U.N. as the worst humanitarian crisis in today’s world. He will unfold his work in his sermon, entitled “I Believe; Help my Unbelief.”

The Rev. Dr. Slaughter is an ordained Elder within the UMC, holding a Doctorate of Ministry. In 2003, he was named Distinguished Evangelist by the Foundation for Evangelism and twice has received the Denman Evangelism Award from the foundation recognizing his leadership in promoting the UMC’s historic commitment to evangelism.

Writing about his ministry and life-passion, Slaughter is the author of multiple books including The Christian Wallet: Spending, Giving & Living with a Conscience, GOSPEL: Rebel Jesus, Dare to Dream and Shiny Gods, as well as many other books.

During his week at Lakeside, the Rev. Dr. Slaughter will preach at 9:15 a.m. Monday-Thursday during the Faith for Living Hour in Orchestra Hall.

At 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, July 26, he will lead Vespers by the Lake, held at the Pavilion East Deck.

Guests may obtain a complimentary Church Pass between 7:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. Sunday, valid until 3 p.m. A complimentary Faith for Living Hour Pass is available from 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday. Both of these passes include admissions for guests and auto.
