Meet the 2016 LLA Marketing and Photography interns, Kelsey Pepa and Renée Poucher:
Name: Kelsey Pepa
School: Bowling Green State University-Firelands
Major/Minor: Visual Communications Technology/Marketing
Hometown: Marblehead, OH
How did you hear about Lakeside, or what is your Lakeside story? I grew up in Marblehead and practically lived in Lakeside at my childhood best friend’s home, on the corner of Peach and 3rd. I attended Small Joys Preschool and was even in a magic show at Hoover once! I’ve been working here since I was fourteen; from miniature golf, to playground supervisor, event team setup, housekeeping, grounds crew, and now this internship. It’s very rewarding for me to finally be doing a job that I enjoy, at a place that I call home.
What are you most looking forward to this summer at Lakeside? I’m looking forward to connecting with various people I’ve met throughout the years from the different jobs I’ve held in Lakeside. I’ve already caught up with some families that I met when I worked in the playground and it’s so nice to talk to them and see how much their kids have grown. I’m also looking forward to making new connections, personal and professional, that I will keep for the rest of my life.
What do you hope to gain from this experience? I hope to gain a better understanding of marketing and expand my design skills.
Name one goal you hope to achieve this summer. My biggest goal is to experience more of the programming that Lakeside has to offer. Anything from taking a class at the Rhein Center to attending more educational lectures.
What are some of your hobbies and what do you enjoy doing in your free time? Some of my hobbies include reading, collecting Stephen King books (62 and counting), writing, being outdoors, watching Tiny House Hunters (I want to own one someday!) and hanging out with Renée, who you’ll read about below. In my free time I like to go thrift shopping with my mom, watch Twilight Zone marathons with my dad, and go on long drives with no specific destination in mind.
What is one of your proudest moments or major accomplishments you have achieved thus far in life? I think life itself is a major accomplishment. I’m proud of the life I’ve lived so far and I can’t wait to see what the future holds. Each day brings a new adventure.
What is your dream job? Anything having to do with traveling to different countries and experiencing different cultures. I’d love to have a job that would take me to either Ireland or Norway.
Tell us a fun fact about you. I have Omphalophobia, the fear of bellybuttons. Also, I can’t whistle.
How did you hear about Lakeside, or what is your Lakeside story? My grandfather was looking for a place for our family reunions. The travel agents kept recommending smaller places in the area. He came across Lakeside and asked them about it. Their reasoning for not bringing it up was that it was a “religious place.” That was perfectly fine with my grandpa because he is a man of faith as is the majority of our family. Since then, we have been vacationing in Lakeside for one week out of every summer for the past 18 years. I have many memories here as does the rest of my family. It’s what makes this place so special. There’s an atmosphere here that’s different from any place I have ever been.
What are you most looking forward to this summer at Lakeside? I am looking forward to a summer on the lake working on my photography and design skills. I am excited to work with a smaller team in a great community. Vacationing here for many years has made this opportunity so exciting. I feel that I am able to give back to all those fun summers. I am also looking to grow professionally through working in Lakeside’s marketing department.
What do you hope to gain from this experience? I hope to strengthen my photography skills this summer. Not only photography but also in graphics, communication and various other media skills. I can already tell this team is going to be fun to work with so I am looking forward to making great friendships this summer.
Name one goal you hope to achieve this summer. My professional goals will be to focus on becoming a better storyteller through all the various media work I will be handling this summer. Some of my personal goals will be to run more and to travel the area more.
What are some of your hobbies and what do you enjoy doing in your free time? Some of my hobbies include photography, hiking, traveling, running and hanging out with Kelsey. In my free time I enjoy hiking, volleyball, horseback riding, watching movies or getting coffee with friends.
What is one of your proudest moments or major accomplishments you have achieved thus far in life? I don’t know what I’d say is my biggest accomplishment so far. There are a lot of things that I’ve done in my life and I feel that they’re all great milestones. Moments like a lot of hard work paying off, overcoming fears, publishing my photography and receiving an Associate’s are just a few. But soon, my biggest accomplishment will be my Bachelor’s degree, which I will complete in December.
What is your dream job? Whether solo or with a small production company, I’d love to travel with my camera taking photos and telling stories.
Tell us a fun fact about you. I’ve done some extreme camping on the American/Canadian border and during one of those trips I stepped on pregnant leech – ask me about it sometime. But there’s one thing that a lot of people know about me and that is that I come from a large family with six brothers and one sister.
