Meet the 2016 LLA Religious Life/Programming interns, Kayla Keller and Lindsey Shrock:
How did you hear about Lakeside, or what is your Lakeside story? I received an email one day from the Capital University career center about an internship position that I might be interested in as a religion major. Following the link, I read the description of this position and it’s responsibilities. Combining my love for religious life with my newly found passion for programming, I just new that this internship was meant for me!
What are you most looking forward to this summer at Lakeside? As this is my first experience at Lakeside, I am most looking forward to experiencing the Lakeside community firsthand and witnessing it’s role in fostering the spiritual growth of all its visitors.
What do you hope to gain from this experience? I hope to gain professional experience and further understanding of the intricacies of large-scale programming as well as gain personal insight into how I might be able to give back through a future career.
Name one goal you hope to achieve this summer. This summer, I hope to increase the level of confidence I have when speaking in front of a large crowd. I have always had a timid demeanor when addressing large groups of people and I hope that this might change through this summer’s experiences.
What are some of your hobbies and what do you enjoy doing in your free time? Some of my hobbies include reading, writing, creating art, and participating in multiple school organizations. In my free time, I enjoy working with yarn (crochet and naalbinding), researching my family tree and spending time with my family and friends.
What is one of your proudest moments or major accomplishments you have achieved thus far in life? Thus far, my proudest accomplishment has been gaining my independence through my study abroad experience in Scotland this past semester (January-May 2016). Before leaving on this trip, I had been frightened to travel by myself. Now, I have had the experience of finding completely unknown places and touring various cities with only myself as company.
What is your dream job? It’s definitely a long shot, but my dream job is to one day be a Rev. Dr. and to contribute to the academic and clerical worlds. I have a passion for church history and long to serve Christ and his calling. Who knows if this will ever happen. Either way, I really only want to serve God and help others with my whatever my career might be in the future.
Tell us a fun fact about you. I once went to a medieval fair and ended up reenacting as a peasant soldier for the day. I ‘died’ a number of times by the hands of children in a show battle.
How did you hear about Lakeside, or what is your Lakeside story? I am a 5th generation Lakesider, and have been enjoying all that Lakeside has to offer since I was 6 weeks old. This will be my second summer working with the Programming Department, and I am so blessed to be working in such a wonderful place!
What are you most looking forward to this summer at Lakeside? I am most looking forward to assisting in all of Lakeside’s exceptional programs! From a very exciting Hoover season (including Rhythmic Circus, Megan Hilty, and the Texas Tenors, among other personal favorites) to our abundance of religious, recreational, and educational programs, Lakeside has something to offer for guests of all ages, and I cannot wait to help contribute to the creation of memorable moments for Lakesiders!
What do you hope to gain from this experience? I hope to gain skills in project and information management, particularly in the creation of Standard Operating Procedures to ensure that all operations run smoothly ‘behind the scenes.’ Of course, I also hope to gain further exposure to all of Lakeside’s beauty and the peace it offers.
Name one goal you hope to achieve this summer. I hope to learn more about advancing performer contracts and working closely with the artists and performers who make our programs so memorable!
What are some of your hobbies and what do you enjoy doing in your free time? This past year at college, I was heavily involved with the Marietta College Theatre Department and conducted research with the Department of Communication Studies. In my free time, I enjoy traveling, cooking, and playing with cats!
What is one of your proudest moments or major accomplishments you have achieved thus far in life? I recently published a thesis through the Marietta College Honors Department and Department of Communication Studies, which analyzed the intrapersonal and social implications of narrative sharing.
What is your dream job? I still haven’t decided! I would love to work for a company that dedicates itself to helping others, like the Make-A-Wish Foundation, or something that involves entertainment, such as a cruise line. I would also enjoy being a gluten free baker/caterer. And, of course, working for Lakeside.
Tell us a fun fact about you. After this summer, I will be returning to Italy, where I studied abroad last year, for three months. I will work with several organizations, including a tourist agency that gives horseback riding tours of Tuscany!
