The Rev. Dr. Streiff began her professional career as a sixth grade teacher in her hometown of Memphis, Tenn., after earning her bachelor’s degree from Purdue University, while also serving as a youth director at her home parish, St. Luke’s United Methodist Church (UMC).
It was while serving as a youth director that she received her call to ministry. During a time where there were few female role models or mentors within the church, the Rev. Dr. Streiff was ordained as a deacon in 1973 and then as an elder in 1979.
She attended the Southern Methodist University Perkins School of Theology in Dallas, Texas and received her Master of Theology in 1976, where she met her husband and ‘seminary sweetheart,’ Gary Streiff.
After she completed Basic Clinical Pastoral Education in Dallas and Advanced Clinical Pastoral Education in New Orleans, La., the couple moved to Cleveland, Ohio and began work with the East Ohio Conference in 1977 and continued to do so through 2005.
They led parishes as co-pastors for 13 years and have also enjoyed singing together for church and community groups.
The Rev. Dr. Streiff earned her Doctorate of Ministry from the Wesley Theological Seminary in 2007.
Her positions in the East Ohio Conference have included Associate Pastor at the Church of the Savior in Cleveland Heights, Director of Youth Ministries at Shoregate UMC in Willowick, Co-Pastor at East Shore UMC and Mentor UMC and Mid-Ohio District Superintendent at Cleveland.
She has also served on many conference committees including COWROW, Pastoral Care, Bishop’s Pastoral Study Commission, Conference Council on Ministries, SBC-21, and a committee for the Maggie Jackson Scholarship Fund for Africa University.
Other highlights that she prides herself on include leading women’s retreats, teaching UMW Schools of Missions, working with families for funerals and weddings, and mentoring young people to grow in their faith.
The Rev. Dr. Streiff and her husband have four adult children together, three of whom are married and one of whom is also a pastor.
At the 10:30 a.m. Hoover Community Worship Service on Sunday, Aug. 21, the Rev. Dr. Streiff will provide a message based on Proverbs 31:10-31. Her sermon is titled “Juggling a Rhythm into Life.”
