As opening weekend gets closer and closer, it’s hard to contain the excitement for the summer, especially with such a great lineup of Hoover entertainment awaiting Lakesiders as they return. All shows begin at 8:15 p.m. unless otherwise noted.
The Chautauqua summer season will officially begin on Saturday, June 17 with a performance by Brass Transit, who will pay tribute to the decades-long, multi-platinum songbook of the band Chicago. Beyond just performing the songs, Brass Transit embodies the very music they are paying tribute to. Also taking the stage on opening weekend will be Jack Hanna “Into the Wild – Live” on Sunday, June 18. As Director Emeritus of the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, Hanna’s shows not only examine the importance of wildlife conservation, but feature some of his favorite animal ambassadors onstage for an educational and entertaining experience the entire family will enjoy.
As lead singer of the band FOREIGNERTM, Lou Gramm’s unique vocals have placed the band among Billboard’s Greatest Artists of All Time with rock & roll anthems “Jukebox Hero,” “Feels like the First Time” and “Cold as Ice.” This Top 40 artist will bring these hits and more to Hoover on Saturday, June 24.
Widely known for popularizing the twist dance style in the 1960s, Chubby Checker will return to Lakeside perform his no. 1 hit, “The Twist,” on Saturday, July 8.
On Saturday, July 15, Jefferson Starship will bring their classic rock hits to the Hoover stage with their songs “We Built This City” and “Miracles.” Formed in the wake of legendary 1970s band and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Jefferson Airplane, Jefferson Starship introduces old songs with a new feel while staying true to the integrity of the music.
Home Free, a popular southern a cappella group, will combine quick-witted humor with country standards and pop hits for their Lakeside debut on Friday, July 21. The Season 4 Champions of NBC’s “The Sing-Off” will bring a high-energy and fresh-feeling show to Hoover.
The Lakeside Symphony Orchestra will continue the annual tradition and perform seven concerts during its month-long residency in Lakeside from Friday, July 28-Friday, Aug. 18. This summer, the symphony features light classics, soloists and a performance with Pointe of Departure Ballet Company on Saturday, Aug. 5.
Lakeside will welcome the iconic 1970s band WAR to Hoover for the first time on Saturday, July 29. This musical crossover band fuses elements of rock, funk, R&B and reggae into their popular songs “The Cisco Kid,” “Why Can’t We Be Friends?” and “Spill the Wine.”
Step back in time with The Drifters as they perform doo-wop favorites “Under the Boardwalk,” “Some Kind of Wonderful” and “This Magic Moment” on Saturday, Aug. 19. Their show is sure to be jam packed with choreography and harmonies that capture the sounds of Motown.
Purchasing a Daily, Saturday or Season Chautauqua Pass includes admission into Lakeside Chautauqua and all shows in Hoover Auditorium, plus additional benefits. A separate ‘ticket’ is not necessary to attend a Hoover show. As always, children age 12 and under and guests over age 90 are always free. Parking is an additional charge. Chautauqua Passes and Auto Passes may be purchased online at tickets.lakesideohio.com or upon entering the gates of Lakeside. Please allow two weeks for online processing. There are no reserved seats for Hoover shows; seats are on a first-come, first-served basis. Present your Chautauqua Pass upon entering Hoover Auditorium.
