Preachers of the Week: Bishop Tracy S. Malone & The Rev. David A.E. Whitt

Lakeside’s 10 a.m. Hoover Community Worship Service on Sunday, June 11 will be led by Bishop Tracy S. Malone. Her sermon, “Live the Promise,” is based on Isaiah 40:25-41. The Rev. David A.E. Whitt will serve as the keynote speaker.

Bishop Malone was elected to the East Ohio Conference in 2016. She has also served as the District Superintendent of the Chicago Southern region and as Dean of the Northern Illinois Conference Cabinet.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in religious studies and sociology with a minor in computer science from North Central College in Naperville, Ill. She went on to receive her Master of Divinity from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, Ill. and also holds a Doctorate of Ministry from the United Theological Seminary in Dayton.

During the course of her ministry, she has taught as an adjunct professor at Aurora University and Northern Baptist Seminary and has published articles, blogs and book reviews.

Bishop Malone is the first female bishop to be elected from the Northern Illinois Conference and the first candidate from the Conference to be elected in the last 20 years.

The Rev. David A.E. Whitt serves as Pastor of Celebration UMC in Euclid. He has also served at Garfield Heights UMC and Simpson UMC of Cleveland, as well as churches outside of the UMC, including The United Church of Christ in Cleveland, The Church of the Brethren in Cleveland Heights and the Presbyterian Church in Rochester, N.Y.

He is a clinical professional counselor and licensed chemical dependency counselor. This passion has helped him focus his ministry on the local church and community.

The Rev. Whitt formerly served as the Director of Children’s Behavior Health at Murtis Taylor Human Services Systems in Cleveland. While there, he served more than1,600 children and was known for his strong administrative and counseling skills and as a highly capable leader with a gentle personality.

He holds a master’s degree in pastoral counseling from Ashland Theological Seminary and a Master of Divinity from Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School. He received his bachelor’s degree in sociology from Heidelberg
