How did you hear about Lakeside, or what is your Lakeside story?

I have been fortunate enough to be able to visit some family friends, the Wendt Family (you may remember them from handing out bananas in fun costumes in the 4th of July parade each year), at Lakeside for a couple summers while taking advantage of all the fun and entertainment here. My older sister, Macy, was also an intern last summer so I often visited her throughout the season and heard many great stories about how she enjoyed her summer here and how much she learned from her internship experience that she will undoubtedly use in her future job experiences. What are you most looking forward to this summer at Lakeside?

I am most looking forward to meeting as many new people as possible and making new friends while spending my time at Lakeside. I love talking to people and hearing their stories. I am also looking forward to experiencing many lake sunsets and jumping in the lake after a good run.

What do you hope to gain from this experience?

I truly hope to find an important role in the Lakeside community through my internship experience while gaining and practicing significant skills in public speaking, planning and technology. This is my first internship and I am so grateful to gain professional experience in such a great community.

Name one goal you hope to achieve this summer.

As I tend to be a rather busy and energetic person, I hope to learn to take the time to relax and enjoy the small things Lakeside has to offer. Whether it is a new friend, laying at the L dock, trying a new Toft’s ice cream flavor, attending the dockside service, or learning about Lake Erie at a lecture, I intend to set aside time to unwind and enjoy the peaceful and fulfilling environment.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I am a lover of talking, coffee, family and friend time, running, sports and the color turquoise. I am happiest when I am involved in many activities. I am the Vice President of my sorority (Alpha Gamma Delta), a Student Ambassador for my University and I enjoy riding horses. I am also one of six kids, so I enjoy spending time with my family outdoors, on our farm, at sporting events or laughing around the dinner table.

What is one of your proudest moments or major accomplishments you have achieved thus far in life?

I believe one of my major accomplishments is changing people’s minds each and everyday by being an advocate for all people. Acceptance is a quality that I hold large to my heart, as I firmly believe that normality has no definition and that appearance, race, gender, and ability are nonessential to what defines people. Growing up with a younger brother with Down Syndrome, I have learned many valuable life lessons. We need to be aware of the way we treat others that are not alike and aim to develop a broader understanding of all people. Therefore, each day I lead by example and speak up for those who cannot in hopes that others will begin to do the same. Seeing many people in my group of friends and surrounding community begin to be more aware and open to become more understanding is very rewarding.

What is your dream job?

My dream job would be running Tim Tebow’s incredible Foundation that brings Faith, Hope and Love to those needing a brighter day in their darkest hour of need through the word of God and service to others. The foundation hosts many events throughout the year including ‘Night to Shine’ which is a prom night for people with special needs to attend all over the world. I believe in the work, attitude, and support for everyone regardless of their economic status, race, or abilities that this foundation prides itself on, and would love being able to work for this incredible non-profit organization.

Tell us a fun fact about you.

I have had the privilege of meeting my hero, Mr. Ben Steele, a WWII POW, veteran, famous artist, and national hero. I read Tears in the Darkness, The Bataan Death March and its Aftermath, which told about his war experience and struggles as a POW throughout the war. It inspired me to eventually fly out to Montana where he lived to meet him. After many years of friendship and several trips to Montana, I become very close to Mr. Steele and he quickly turned into a grandparent figure. I even had the humbling honor to be in a documentary about his life.
