Sypherds donates golf carts to Lakeside’s Security fleet

Sypherd’s Cycles, Lakeside’s bicycle shop, has been in operation since 1976, making it one of the oldest businesses in the community. Floyd Sypherd and his son, Tim, are co-owners of the family business.

The family’s decision to open a bicycle shop in Lakeside came from their original hardware store and bike shop, located in Akron, Ohio.

The Sypherds also recognized Lakeside needed a bike shop since the original one had closed several years before. The family has kept some items from Lakeside’s first bike shop, including its sign, which is still displayed.

The Sypherds continue to be an innovative and community-oriented business, eager to provide more goods and services to Lakesiders. In 1998, they added a rental center with TVs/VCRs, microwaves, electric scooters, strollers and more. By 2000, golf cart rentals were added to their inventory.

The Sypherds are longtime Lakesiders. “We first came here in 1967,” Tim shared, and the family has seen Lakeside evolve over the years. They have especially enjoyed seeing how much Lakeside’s parks have changed.

“We were happy to see the gazebo renovation this summer and the additions made to Lakeside’s playgrounds over the years,” Tim said. “Recreation for the kids is really important to us, and God Squad and the Wednesday Family Night Picnics have always been near and dear to our hearts.”

Sustainability is also important to them. This summer, the Sypherds donated two of their golf carts to Lakeside’s Security Department, with the hope of helping Lakeside become a more eco-friendly environment.

“I’ve noticed how the amount of time spent in the Security truck has been reduced since we’ve donated the two Security golf carts,” Tim said. “I think when guests see the staff on electric golf carts it helps promote Lakeside’s statement of being a green community.

When they see Lakeside going greener, it helps them go greener in Lakeside and their home communities.”

Tim also deeply values everything the Security Department does for Lakeside, which is another reason the golf carts were donated.

“Anything I can do to make the Security Department’s job and lives easier, I’m more than happy to do it,” Tim said.

Sypherd Cycles is located at 182 Sycamore Ave. Stop by to rent a bicycle, golf cart and more, and thank them for their generous donation to Lakeside’s Security team.

“If you’re considering giving to Lakeside, look at what’s near and dear to your heart and give to that fund or department,” said Tim. “The best way to support our future is to support Lakeside’s future.”
