At the 10:30 a.m. Hoover Community Worship Service on Sunday, June 26, she will provide a message based on Galatians 5:1, 13-15. Her sermon is titled “Freedom.”
The Rev. Dr. Bridgeman knew from the age of 7 that she wanted to become a preacher and accepted the call at 18 years old.
She graduated from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas with a double major in communication and religion. At Austin Presbyterian Seminary, where she earned her Master of Divinity, she was awarded the Charles L. King Excellence in Preaching Award. She also earned her PhD in biblical studies from Baylor University.
The Rev. Dr. Bridgeman is the leader of WomanPreach!, a ministry committed to training women called to preach by providing intimate, practical training and nurturing spaces to empower women preachers.
WomanPreach! Inc. began from a course the Rev. Dr. Bridgeman taught at Memphis Theological Seminary that was also offered at the University of Memphis in 2006 and 2007. Of WomanPreach!, the Rev. Dr. Bridgman says, “We do one thing, and try to do that one thing well. We help preachers preach. We help preachers find focus, voice, process and courage.”
In addition to her many accomplishments as a preacher and teacher, the Rev. Dr. Bridgeman is a published and award-winning poet, visual artist, jazz dancer and stage performer.
During her week at Lakeside, she will also preach during Faith for Living Hour at 9:15 a.m. Monday-Thursday in Orchestra Hall, sharing a message about “Faith in Action & in Formation.”
At 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, the Rev. Dr. Bridgeman will lead Vespers by the Lake, held on the Pavilion East Deck.
For those who wish to attend worship, a complimentary Church Pass may be obtained between 7:30-10:30 a.m. Sunday, valid until 3 p.m. A complimentary Faith for Living Hour Pass is available from 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday. Both of these passes include admission for guests and auto.
