A Chautauqua-by-the-Sea Story

Frank Gwalthney’s Chautauqua-by-the-Sea story may sound familiar to many Lakeside stories told on a Front Porch.

Gwalthney had planned to spend the summer of 1965 painting for his high school teacher, Mr. Mitchell. His teacher invited him to go to a place he described as a “Baptist gathering place.”

Gwalthney was 18 years old and completely uninterested. Nevertheless, he agreed to come along. Read More

From Sunday, June 8-Wednesday, June 11, the clergy and lay members of the West Ohio Annual Conference will gather on the shores of Lake Erie at Lakeside Chau­tauqua for their 45th conference ses­sion.

Members and guests will worship, learn and deliberate in community, making important decisions and celebrating milestones in ministry.

Throughout the week, nearly 2,500 West Ohio United Methodists will experience workshops, bible stud­ies, ordination services, special events and attend to the business of conference.

Living Water

Water is all around Lakeside.  One can find bubbling water in The Memorial Garden at Chautauqua Park, trickling water near the entrance of the Fountain Inn, shooting water in the fountain at the Hotel Lakeside front lawn, spraying water in the Splash Park and splashing water off the dock.  Water reminds us of what is needed and necessary for life.  We must drink plenty of water to live.
