Viewing the human need around the world is one issue that the Rev. Dr. Amihan “Amy” Valdez Barker focuses on daily. As Preacher of the Week from June 28-July 3, she will share how The United Methodist Global Church oversees the coordination of mission, ministries and resources.
At the 10:30 a.m. Hoover Community Worship Service on Sunday, June 28, the Rev. Dr. Valdez Barker will draw attention back to the story of creation in Genesis 1.
In her sermon, titled “Spiritual Generativity: The Beauty of the Divine Design,” she will investigate earth and its resources.
She will also preach at 9:15 a.m. Monday-Thursday during Faith for Living Hour in Orchestra Hall.
Following the Faith for Living Hour on Tuesday, June 30, a Conversation with the Preacher will take place from 12-1 p.m. in the Hotel Lakeside Fern Room.
At 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, the Rev. Dr. Valdez Barker will lead Vespers by the Lake service, held at the Steele Memorial Bandstand in Central Park.
The Rev. Dr. Valdez Barker serves as Executive Secretary of The Connectional Table of The United Methodist Church and has served as Project Manager for Vital Congregations.
With a background in journalism and communications, she articulates the complicated research and statistics that go along with helping those in need around the world.
She completed her doctorate and master’s degree at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary. She also studied at University of Iowa and completed her bachelor’s degree in communications and journalism.
