As these words are being typed, it’s still snowing in Lakeside, but the official start of spring is only a couple weeks away, and summer will be here in the blink of an eye. As warmer weather approaches, it brings to mind many thoughts of renewal and regeneration. Spring brings us baby animals, new growth in our gardens and rain that washes away the dreariness of winter. Pat Castanaras, Les Cunningham and Carolyn Beears are just three of the many volunteers that make this experience worthwhile for so many guests and Lakesiders. All are invited to participate in a 5k run/walk in honor of Patricia King Munn, a Lakesider. The race will begin at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 12 in front of the Lakeside Chautauqua Administration Office. The course will be the same as the 5k Raccoon Run. Registration online. Pre-registration is $20 and same-day registration on Sunday, Oct. 12 will be $25. To be guaranteed a T-shirt, participants must register by Monday, Oct. 6. Staff Blogger: Melissa Kunz, Content Manager Even though the summer has come and gone, Lakeside Chautauqua is still bustling. In the off-season, from early-September to late-May, Lakeside offers many events and activities across the campus, even though most of the shops, restaurants, services and bed & breakfasts/guest houses have closed until next summer.

Staff Blogger: Jessica Kidd, Advancement Manager Mabelle Seitter Elsasser first came to Lakeside in the early 1920s with her parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, brother and sister. Being raised in a Methodist family, Lakeside was an important part of their family vacations. Elsasser shared her fondest memories of the Chautauqua community with her daughter, Elizabeth Brahler. Elsasser would often reminisce about the educational lectures and the family connections.
