Many Lakeside Chautauqua visitors like to spend their vacation fishing. Whether you’re fishing along the shore or off the dock, you’re sure to catch a bite. To open its 51st season, the Lakeside Symphony Orchestra (LSO) will present a concert of “Light Classics” at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, in Hoover Auditorium. A reception will be held immediately following the concert to celebrate and meet the musicians. Established in 1963, the LSO is one of Lakeside’s most cherished traditions. Lakeside Chautauqua welcomed 14 Lakeside Leadership Academy (LLA) interns in early May. Since then, they have been hard at work experiencing Lakeside, taking on challenges and advancing new projects within their work environments. We would like to introduce the Lakeside community to this summer’s Conference & Event Planning Interns and the Events/Project Management Intern.

Guest Blogger: Allison Moon, Advancement Communications Intern   A Chautauqua on Lake Michigan Story “Bay View is really home to me,” Betsy Loyd Harvey said. “When I think of going home, I go to Bay View.” Can any Lakesiders relate? Does this sound familiar to Frank Gwalthney’s kids at Ocean Park? Harvey is the fifth generation of her family to spend thesummertime in Bay View, Mich., a Chautauqua on Lake Michigan. Harvey’s great-great-grandmother first visited Bay View to breathe in clearer air when she had hay fever.

Lakeside’s popular Wednesday Night Family Picnics have returned. At 5:30 p.m. there will be music playing, the smell of hot dogs cooking, a huge line stretching to the tennis courts, children playing with bubbles and chalk, and chairs and blankets spread across the park. The Wednesday Night Family Picnics started in 1995, with a package of hot dogs, a bag of chips and a few families. It has grown to be one of Lakeside’s favorite summer traditions.
