Have you already read our blog post by Melissa Kunz titled, “Include Lakeside Chautauqua in Your New Year’s Resolutions” She shared some excellent resolutions that included Lakeside Chautauqua.

Many of us want to give back to our communitiesor a special cause, and Melissa sparked the idea in resolution #6: Give something you’re passionate about a little more attention this year. Volunteering is a great way to give back and help make a difference in 2015. Visit Lakeside in the spring and plan to volunteer during Spring Cleanup Day on Saturday, April 25.

If you can’t make it back to Lakeside for Spring Cleanup Day and still want to volunteer – don’t worry, Lakeside offers a wide variety of volunteer opportunities throughout the summer and off-season.

Opportunities range from a few hours to a whole day or the entire seasonal, and yet others can involve multiple years of service.

When determining how you can volunteer at Lakeside, consider the four Chautauqua pillars: religion, education arts and recreation.

From here, do you have an area of expertise, a passion or an interest? Find an opportunity that fits you, your lifestyle and length of time commitment you’re capable of making.

Check out our list below for some ideas:

1.) Become a Lakeside Fund Ambassador, and help raise funds to support the Chautauqua community we all love so much.

2.) Join the Rhein Center as an assistant and help others unleash their creativity or help a child create a work of art.

3.) Assist with the Lakesider newspaper by joining the Editing Committee. They help edit the newspaper on a weekly basis during the summer.

4.) Volunteer as a Lakesider newspaper photographer. Did you capture a great moment at a special event? Send it over to the Advancement & Communications Department for possible inclusion in the Lakesider or on social media.

5.) Help out at Hoover performances as a Greeter or “Clicker.” Share a smile as you welcome first-time and repeat Lakesiders to the nightly entertainment shows.

6.) On Sundays throughout the summer, volunteer as a Hoover Community Worship Service Usher. Share God’s peace and spirit as you welcome others to each worship service.

7.) Become a Lakeside gardener. Do you have a green thumb and enjoy all the beauty that comes from more than 30 gardens across the Lakeside campus? Donate some time to help keep those gardens looking beautiful.

8.) Volunteering at special events throughout the summer is a great way to donate a few hours or a whole day of service. The special events require all hands on deck as they cover a wide variety of interests. These special events include Spring Cleanup Day, Plant Sale, Lakeside-Marblehead Lighthouse Festival and the Community Christmas Dinner.

Lakeside is filled with volunteer opportunities at every level; this list is just a sample to get your mind flowing with ideas. Visit the volunteer page for more opportunities and job descriptions. Don’t forget to download and complete the Volunteer Application.
